About the name:
Sereus is pronounced to rhyme with "ferry us" or "fairydust", and it is a play on the word Cereus.  The Night-Blooming Cereus is a rare desert flower that blooms one night a year.  As a child, my grandmother had one of these amazing plants, and it fascinated me.  After she passed away, my mother began tending to the plant, and it now fills half of her large sunroom.  The summer following my grandmother's death, it bloomed the night of her birthday.
